This is a project where the artists are recording the sound of living organisms decaying. As well having devised recording devices that pick up very low volume, low frequency ‘microscopic’ sounds, the artists have developed a microphonic surface, an attenuated time lapse recording system and a as play back systems that collect and send sounds to a listening post online or in the exhibition space, where people will be able to ‘listen’ to dead animals make their final contributions to the sonic environment as they decay. They have developed a system to contain decay and recording in such a way that the listening experience can be enjoyed whilst visibly witnessing the physical progress of decay (see image).
The initial research on this project was funded by the Edith Cowan University Faculty of Arts and Education Small Research Grant Funds.
